Radio sets up BACC-style ad clearance

The Association of Independent Radio Companies is pressing on with plans for a radio equivalent of the Broadcast Advertising Copy Clearance Centre and is renaming itself.

It will advertise for four people to join the fledgling Radio Advertising Copy Clearance Centre this week. A headhunter is seeking a chief for the division.

The initiative marks further attempts by the AIRC to prove commercial radio is accountable and responsible for its own affairs.

At the same time, AIRC chairman Paul Brown has confirmed the organisation will be renamed in April as the Commercial Radio Companies Association.

“Relaunch is too strong, but we do think there is a lack of understanding outside the industry of just what we are,” Brown says.

The RACCC will be launched on July 1. The move has been generally welcomed, although agencies say they will be watching to ensure the quality and administration of the process is undertaken to the same standard as the BACC.
