Chief of BA arm takes up Alamo Euro post
US car rental company Alamo has recruited former British Airways head of US sales Mike Jones as its European marketing chief to spearhead its push into non-US markets.
Jones, who is managing director of British Airways’ regional airline Brymon Airways, will open a European headquarters for Alamo in May. Previously all European marketing was handled from the US.
He was headhunted for the role by Mike Batt, BA’s former marketing director, who left the company a year ago to become vice-president of Alamo US sales and marketing.
As European vice-president of sales and marketing, Jones says he plans to boost the company’s profile in the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In the UK, Alamo holds about ten per cent market share.
Last October, the company appointed M&C Saatchi for its creative account after splitting from Woollams Moira Gaskin O’Malley in June. It has also pulled its 4m European media planning and buying account out of the CIA Medianetwork and placed it with TMD Carat.
A replacement has not yet been announced to replace Jones at Brymon Airways.
