One2One insider handed top role

One2One marketing and sales director Paul Donovan is taking up the newly-created role of commercial director at the mobile phone operator.

The switch expands Donovan’s responsibilities and makes space for both a new marketing director, and a sales director, to report to Donovan. Headhunters are to identify candidates for both jobs.

Donovan continues to have overall control of both areas, as well as customer services. “The company has experienced dramatic growth in the past two years,” says Donovan, “and the aim is to keep it as integrated as possible. This is an opportunity to strengthen the team.”

The mobile operator holds eight per cent of the UK market with 545,000 subscribers. Donovan joined from BT in 1995 (MW August 25 1995) and has overseen the dropping of the Mercury name and the launch of the 10m ad campaign through Bartle Bogle Hegarty featuring former Beirut hostage John McCarthy and model Kate Moss.

Donovan’s move is part of a restructure that also sees the appointment of a public policy and legal affairs director, Robin Saphra – a reflection of the growing importance of the regulator in the telecoms industry.
