Aisle see you in court, says chef

Sponsorship consultant and former Duckworth Finn Grubb Waters ad man Drew Nicholson narrowly missed an unsavoury experience as a star witness this month in one of the biggest food poisoning cases of recent years.

Nicholson was a guest at a summer wedding in Kent two years ago where the caterer served warm seafood mayonnaise, which was left in a marquee for four hours while temperatures were in the 80s. Hundreds of people – including the newly-weds and their friend Nicholson – went down with salmonella poisoning involving violent vomiting and diarrhoea.

The caterer, who has been jailed for four months, is appealing against his sentence, and Nicholson was called to give evidence in his capacity as one of the poisoning victims.

His plea to the judiciary (that he was in the throes of setting up his new consultancy, DNA) was accepted and he was mercifully spared a painful cross-examination into the details of his sufferings.
