Debenhams unveils limited online shopping services

Department chain Debenhams is launching a limited e-commerce service this week, just one day after it is due to unveil its year-end financial results.

The site, designed by new media agency USWeb/CKS, will offer a range of Christmas gifts, a wedding gift and flower delivery service.

Managing director Paul Kaursland unveiled the site on Wednesday (October 20) and announced plans for a further roll-out of its Interc@fés, which offer shoppers Internet access within Debenhams stores.

The move into online commerce by Debenhams follows hard on the heels of the roll out of e-commerce retailing “portal” site Zoom.co.uk by former sister company Arcadia in June.

Zoom.co.uk was scheduled to hold “the UK’s first virtual [fashion] shopping evening” this week, as Marketing Week went to press, giving site visitors the chance to preview and buy millennium party wear through its “Evans” shopping channel.
