NRS extended by 15 paper sections

The National Readership Survey (NRS) is being extended to include more than 15 extra newspaper sections, following pressure from the Newspaper Publishers Association.

The constituent parts of the NRS – the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA), NPA and Periodical Publishers Association (PPA) – have all agreed to the move.

Richard Webb, News Group Newspapers’ deputy general manager and chairman of the NPA’s advertising executive, says: “We recently came to an agreement on some more sections and I will say no more than that.”

Business, personal finance and entertainment sections are affected by the changes.

It is understood The Guardian’s The Guide, The Independent’s The Information and Evening Standard’s Hot Tickets will be included.

The Saturday sections thought to be included in the amended survey are The Daily Telegraph’s Money Go Round, Guardian’s Jobs & Money and The Independent’s FT Money.

The Observer’s Business and Cash sections, Mail on Sunday’s Financial Mail, Sunday Express’ Smart Money; Sunday Telegraph and Independent on Sunday’s Business sections and Sunday Times’ Business and Money sections are understood to be included.

The NPA, PPA and IPA are continuing discussions about the number of magazines that should be included.
