Bright Station brings in top marketer from Virgin Wines

Bright Station, the technology company which bought part of Boo.com, has poached Campbell Macpherson from Virgin Wines to be its strategic planning and marketing director.

Macpherson, previously marketing director at the online wine ordering service, will oversee the marketing of Bright Station. He plans to create a core marketing department that will advise subsidiary companies.

Before joining Virgin Wines, Macpherson was a senior manager of e-business at Andersen Consulting.

Bright Station bought the e-commerce engine of failed fashion retailer Boo.com earlier this year and hired 30 of Boo’s technical staff.

WebTop, Bright Station’s Internet search engine, appointed former AltaVista UK managing director Andy Mitchell as its chief executive in November.

Macpherson will also sit on Bright Station’s executive committee. He says: “The company is unique and can provide secure online shopping, accurate search engines and comprehensive knowledge management systems. I’m excited to be joining such a dynamic team.”

Bright Station chief executive Dan Wagner adds: “We are already able to provide new businesses with capital and world-beating technology assets. Now we can offer them marketing expertise to help them on the road to success.”

It is unclear whether Macpherson has been replaced at Virgin Wines.
