Aberdeen Unit Trust unveils Thomas The Tank Engine plan for children

Aberdeen Unit Trust Managers is launching a branded Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends savings plan for children.

The Thomas & Friends Children’s Investment Plan will be promoted through a &£250,000 marketing campaign, breaking today, aimed at parents and grandparents.

An online game, created by Liquid Idea, is available at the company’s website. It aims to get children interested in savings in a fun way.

Characters from the show will be used on posters in London railway stations, mailshots and ads in national papers and consumer magazines. Creative is by Abstracts, with media buying by Capital City Media.

Under the plan, adults can choose to invest a minimum lump sum of &£400 or a minumum of &£25 per month by direct debit. The plan is held in the adult’s name until the child reaches 18, when it is transferred to them.

The characters are being used under licence from Gullane Entertainment for three years.

Aberdeen Unit Trust Managers managing director Gary Marshall says: “Most people recognise the importance of saving for a child’s future, but many look no further than a bank or building society account. The Thomas & Friends Children’s Investment Plan offers a simple and accessible alternative.”
