De Vere hotels group makes its sales and marketing director redundant in restructure

Luxury hotel and health club operator De Vere Group has made its sales and marketing director redundant, handing responsibility for marketing to strategy director Alasdair McNee as part of a wider restructuring.

Bill Gosling left the company last month after the company split sales and marketing responsibilities, appointing McNee to the new role of director of strategy and marketing. It has also appointed Nick Turner, former brand director of sales at Heritage Hotels, to the newly created position of director of sales.

McNee joined De Vere in 1995, when the company was still known as Greenalls Group. He worked in the finance and planning department. Last year he was promoted to director of strategy, responsible for business planning, investor relations and developing the company’s database.

“I am now also in charge of group marketing, which makes sense as the two roles sit very comfortably together,” says McNee.

He adds that his main responsibilities in the next year will centre around building awareness of the De Vere company brand.

The company sold its 820 pubs, restaurants and lodges in 1999, in order to concentrate on its 17 upmarket De Vere hotels, ten Village hotels/fitness clubs and the new line of Greens Health & Fitness clubs, currently being rolled out.
