It’s marketing Jim, but not as we know it

Guerrilla marketing. It’s a trendy concept at the moment. Just don’t mention it to anyone from IBM.

The company has just been forced to pay $120,000 (£84,000) to San Francisco authorities after a street marketing campaign went badly wrong. And the amount is set to rise.

The company hired agency Big Blue to paint “Peace, Love, Linux” slogans over the streets of the city to promote its new operating system.

But there was a slight oversight; the slogans don’t wash off.

The company has also had to shell out $18,000 (£12,690) to Chicago authorities and is negotiating with Boston and New York over compensation and cleaning costs.

The company’s ad campaigns are based around it creating solutions. Looks like the only solution it needs at the moment is a steam cleaner.
