Fighting over the best airtime

The Diary loves watching Scousers shouting at each other. The start of the latest series of Airline was, therefore, cause for celebration.

The Diary loves watching Scousers shouting at each other. The start of the latest series of Airline was, therefore, cause for celebration.

The ITV series focuses on the comings and goings of easyJet staff at Luton and Liverpool airports. The Diary is extremely glad that it doesn’t have their jobs – if only because they have to spend all day dressed like Dutch footballers.

Imagine the Diary’s surprise when, during the programme’s ad break, not one, but two ads for easyJet’s rival, Buzz, were shown.

EasyJet is philosophical about its cheeky competitor. A spokesman spins it nicely: “Buzz recognises that it’s a very good slot. It got one minute of publicity, we got 25. Who got the better deal?”

From the evidence of the programme, it was probably not the poor customers. They seem to spend half their time complaining about problems and waiting for delayed flights.
