Cosmos hands Coach Tours chief reins of package holiday division

Cosmos has promoted Ali Naqvi to oversee marketing for two of the holiday company’s divisions.

Naqvi, marketing director at the company’s coach division Cosmos Coach Tours, will also assume responsibility for the marketing of Cosmosair, the package holiday arm.

The appointment is part of a restructure at Cosmosair after the departure of sales and marketing director David Burdon last month. His responsibilities have been split between Naqvi and newly appointed sales director Brian Young.

Naqvi reports to both Terry Williamson, Cosmos managing director, and Paul Jolliffe, managing director of the coach division.

Naqvi joined Cosmos from National Express where he was sales and marketing director for train operators WAGN, C2C and LTS in May 2001 (MW May 24, 2001). He has also held marketing roles at English Heritage, Pepsi Trocadero and the Science Museum. At Coach Tours he has responsibility for the North American, Tourama, Distant Dreams and Archers Direct brands.

Cosmos consolidated its media planning and buying business across its divisions and appointed Total Media last year (MW May 30, 2002). HDM Communications is working on advertising for Tourama and Cosmosair on a project-by-project basis.

Cosmos is independently owned by the Globus Travel Group. Last September it introduced its first direct mail brochure called Cosmos Selection in a bid to bypass travel agents and target consumers direct (MW September 5, 2002).
