Expedia reviews £2.6m offline media account

Expedia.co.uk, the online travel agent, is undertaking a review of its offline media planning and buying account, worth &£2.6m. The incumbent Media Planning Group has been invited to repitch alongside other agencies.

In January Expedia appointed Clemmow Hornby Inge (CHI) to handle its &£2m advertising account. CHI beat off competition from Campbell Doyle Dye, Wieden & Kennedy and incumbent Euro RSCG Wnek Gosper (MW January 9).

CHI was appointed to help promote Expedia’s travel packages and encourage use of its full range of website services. The agency’s first brand campaign for Expedia was launched in April and focused on the tagline “What’s your perfect trip?” The work involved two TV ads, and press and outdoor campaigns.

The media review will not affect CHI or its online planning and buying agency Media Contacts.

Last November, the travel company appointed Coca-Cola marketer Beverly Shaw as its marketing director (MW October 31, 2002). She replaced Nickie Smith, who had held the marketing reins since the site launched in 1998.

Expedia’s main shareholder, Microsoft, sold its stake last year to the owner of Ticketmaster, USA Interactive.
