Sticking with the obvious choice

It’s bonfire night tonight (date at the bottom of the page notwithstanding), which is serendipitous, as it falls in the middle of National Toffee Week.

As every child knows, fire and toffee go together like bogeys and fingers, so the toffee-smiths at Stoke-on-Trent company Walkers Nonsuch – whose idea the affair was – have chosen their time well.

Sadly, the Diary is unable to bring you a quote from Walkers: phone calls to the sugary-tetanus-substitute-manufacturer are answered: “Hnnlnnnn, Wlll’llllthth Nnnnth’th”. And the Dairy can’t spell that.
