NAB appoints wealth division top marketer

National Australia Bank (NAB) has appointed former Barclays and British Gas marketer Sue Sjuve as head of marketing for its wealth-management division.

Sjuve joins after only seven months at British Gas, where she occupied the newly created position of head of customer propositions, responsible for marketing non-energy products (MW July 3, 2003). British Gas has appointed Janette Bell as a replacement, in a reshuffle that also resulted in marketing director Andrew Mann moving to head the House.co.uk online service (MW last week).

Sjuve has spent much of her career with the Woolwich, which she joined in 1986. As top marketer, she oversaw the creation of Open Plan, the company’s personalised online and phone banking service. Following Barclays’ purchase of the Woolwich in 2000, Sjuve was promoted to a group role as propositions director.

At NAB, Sjuve will oversee the creation of a marketing team for the wealth division. In the UK, NAB owns Yorkshire Bank, Clydesdale Bank and Northern Bank. It also owns National Irish Bank in the Republic of Ireland.

NAB has retained the high street brand names of the banks it has bought, but uses the NAB brand for its wealth-management products and services. These are sold by tied advisers in its branch network, but NAB also distributes its investment products through independent financial advisers. NAB creates its advertising in house, and MediaVision handles its media buying and planning.
