CHI wins £10m NatMags’ launch

The National Magazine Company (NatMags) is poised to appoint Clemmow Hornby Inge to handle the advertising for its &£10m women’s weekly launch. This follows a three-way pitch against Fallon and HHCL/Red Cell.

The launch is being led by NatMags managing director Duncan Edwards.

It is believed that the new weekly magazine will be celebrity-focused and will aim for a mature readership to replicate the success of EMAP’s Closer and IPC’s Now (MW last week).

The weekly, which insiders suggest is likely to be called Reveal (MW May 27), will be the second launch for NatMags in the weekly sector. The only other weekly title in NatMags’ portfolio is Best, which it acquired four years ago as part of its acquisition of Gruner & Jahr UK magazines.

A spokeswoman for NatMags says: “We have not appointed an agency at the moment.”

NatMags is also understood to be talking to agencies about the relaunch its flagship women’s monthly Cosmopolitan. The title has reported falling circulation figures, and has been squeezed by increased competition from Condé Nast’s Glamour magazine.

In the July to December 2003 period, Cosmopolitan’s circulation fell year on year by 0.5 per cent and period on period by 0.3 per cent to 460,655.
