Wm Hill appoints retail marketing chief

William Hill group director for trading David Lowrey has been given additional responsibility as head of retail marketing, ending the gambling giant’s hunt for a new marketing chief for that side of the business.

The move follows the recent promotion of group marketing director Peter Nolan to head William Hill’s online and interactive business division (MW December 16, 2004). Following Nolan’s appointment as group director for interactive business, the company decided to split the marketing operation in two, with Nolan taking responsibility for all aspects of online marketing.

William Hill’s website elements – sportsbook, casino, poker and arcade – and the recently launched interactive TV station will be overseen by Nolan. Lowrey, who has been with William Hill for 30 years, will take on responsibility for corporate sponsorship and for marketing the telephone and retail sides of the business.

“We have stopped looking for a new marketing director,” says Nolan, “and decided to manage the position internally through a small restructure.”William Hill has three different areas – retail, telephone and interactive. We have not changed our strategy or the structure, but in terms of marketing responsibility it has been split between Lowrey and myself.”
