New Campaigns – Lufthansa

Germany’s national airline, Lufthansa, is repainting 30 of its planes’ nose-cones with football designs, to celebrate the 2006 World Cup. The aircraft will keep the new look until the end of the tournament next summer.

The first plane was repainted last week and made its first flight with the new look when it carried the Bayern Munich football team to Japan to take part in a friendly tournament.

The company says that the planes will fly to all Lufthansa’s destinations, and adds that it may introduce other football branding in the forthcoming season. “The planes are worldwide ambassadors for football and invite visitors to the host country, Germany,” says marketing director Thierry Antinori.

Lufthansa sponsors the German national team and also signed a deal with leading club side Bayern Munich earlier this year. It is not a sponsor of the World Cup itself.
