Former Express ad boss takes reins at City AM
Jeremy Slattery, who was axed last year as head of classified advertising at Express Newspapers as part of a major shake-up, has re-emerged as head of advertising at City AM.
Slattery lost his job at Northern & Shell, which publishes the Daily and Sunday Express, in a reshuffle last April that saw two other senior advertising executives, Karen Newton and Gary Savage, also accept redundancy.
Slattery, who worked for Express Newspapers for 12 years, has been at City AM since early July. He reports to sales and marketing director Jeremy Phillips.
The business freesheet, concentrating on the Canary Wharf and City areas of London, launched just over a week ago with a distribution of 60,000. The company hopes to increase that to 100,000.
Phillips is one of a number of City AM executives who have experience of making free newspapers a success at Metro International. Phillips, formerly of Metro’s global ad sales, moved to London to head Metro Solutions, working with advertisers. He is joined at City AM by at least two former colleagues – new managing director Lawson Muncaster and new chief executive Jens Torpe.
vExpress Newspapers has promoted Jane Putley to group advertising manager. She replaces Melanie Danks, who is spending a year on secondment as publisher of OK! in the US. Putley will work on the Daily and Sunday Express as well as the Daily Star and Daily Star Sunday. She will report to Express Newspapers joint managing director Stan Myerson.
