TS Media launches ‘world’s first’ gay motor insurance

The company behind gay motoring website TopGayer is launching what it claims are the world’s first gay motor insurance policies.

TS Media, which also owns Queernetwork.co.uk, is working with specialist insurer Lifesure to launch the service, as well as a gay wedding insurance scheme.

Gay male couples are classified as two single males by most car insurance companies and pay higher premiums than a straight married couple, who are regarded as a lower risk. Tesco is one of the few insurers to offer same-sex couples the same deals as heterosexual married couples, but TS Media’s scheme is understood to be the first specifically targeting the gay community.

Lifesure spokesman Gary Armiger says: “We decided to launch the motoring insurance because many people within the community feel embarrassed when adding their partners to their policies and don’t feel comfortable answering questions about their living arrangements.”

Lifesure, which approached TS Media to be its media partner, will develop a marketing campaign to support the launch of the motor insurance policies. The first wave of advertising is expected to include online and press advertising in both gay and heterosexual publications.

Rich Tuckwell, managing director of TS Media and editor of TopGayer, says of the launch: “It is yet another breakthrough for the gay community and equality.”
