Greene King hands WFCA Speckled Hen

Greene King has appointed WFCA to handle advertising for its Old Speckled Hen beer brand. The Kent-based agency was given accounts for the brewer’s Ruddles and Abbot Ale drinks last year.

Greene King is believed to have spent about &£2.5m on advertising last year. It is not known whether the appointment of WFCA will affect Miles Calcraft Briginshaw Duffy’s tenure of the Greene King IPA flagship brand account.

The Old Speckled Hen brief is expected to include mainly print and outdoor work, although Greene King is understood to be reviewing all its above-the-line options for the cask ale brand.

Sue Thomas-Taylor, Greene King marketing director, says: “WFCA has already delivered strategically and creatively on the Ruddles and Abbot Ale brands. With Old Speckled Hen, it demonstrated strategic thinking, and an in-depth understanding of the brand and its unique consumer offering.”

WFCA recently picked up the UK advertising account for French insurance company Axa (MW last week). It will work alongside Grey Worldwide Australia, which seized the &£22m UK account from JWT in October.
