Trinity Mirror to launch Scottish evening dailies

Trinity Mirror’s Scottish Daily Record is to launch two evening editions targeting the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. It is understood that the newspapers will be rolled out in the next couple of weeks.

Trinity Mirror has not revealed the launch dates or the cover price of Daily Record Glasgow PM or Daily Record Edinburgh PM but it is known that the papers will be available from 3pm everyday in over 1,000 outlets across both cities. The editorial content of the evening papers will focus heavily on breaking news and sport but will also incorporate entertainment. Trinity Mirror says the launches are the first in a series of new publishing initiatives for the Daily Record, the biggest selling Scottish daily newspaper.

It has recruited a team of more than 50 sales people to sell advertising for the new papers.

Mark Hollinshead, managing director of the Daily Record and Sunday Mail titles, says the commercial objectives are to extend the brand’s reach and to influence a wider audience in order to increase its appeal to advertisers.

Hollinshead adds: “All advertising carried in the main national edition will be carried in the PM editions and, at the same time, we will be launching localised new advertising platforms.”

More than 20 journalists have been recruited to the new editions and will work out of the Daily Record offices in either Glasgow or Edinburgh.
