WFCA, the Tunbridge Wells-based agency, has won the £1m media planning and buying account for budget retailer Budgens. It follows a two-way pitch against incumbent Total Media.

The agency already handles the Budgens creative account, and the retailer hopes that moving the media business will lead to a more integrated approach.

Ross Halliday, acting marketing director for Budgens’ parent company, Musgrave Budgens Londis, says: “WFCA really showed us the commercial advantage of combining our creative and media services. Moving forward, this new approach for us will ensure a truly integrated plan for the Budgens brand and our retailers.”

WFCA has been building up its media department since the arrival of Bill Jones, one of the founders of MediaCom, as media director in 2004. The agency handles £30m of media business.
