Is there money at the top?

WPP boss Sir Martin Sorrell appears to have hit something of a pay ceiling, according to the advertising group’s annual report. Sir Martin was paid £3,294,000 last year, up by just £16,000 on the year before. His pay includes £832,000 in salary and fees, which is topped up by £34,000 for benefits such as life assurance and allowances. He also pocketed a bonus of £1,613,000, worth 192% of his salary, and a share award of £815,000.

If Sir Martin had concern over his relatively paltry pay rise, though, he should not fear. The WPP chief executive is set to be paid a salary of £1m for the first time this year, according to the annual report. It is his first salary rise since 1999.
