Condé Nast is launching men’s magazine GQ in India this year, to follow the launch of fashion glossy Vogue last September. The move is the latest in a series of launches by Condé Nast International that have included Vanity Fair in Spain, Tatler in Russia and Condé Nast Traveller in Greece.

According to Jonathan Newhouse, chairman of Cond» Nast International, GQ’s entry to India “reflects the red-hot expansion of the luxury market catering to India men – who are earning and spending like never before, driving consumption in Asia’s third-largest economy”.

Managing director of Condé Nast India Alex Kuruvilla says: “We have been inundated by requests from advertisers and readers to launch GQ in India. Like its international counterparts, GQ India will be stylish, opinionated and celebrate the finest journalism India has to offer.”

First published in the USA in 1957, GQ initially focused solely on fashion. In 1983 Condé Nast Publications took over the magazine and expanded its scope beyond fashion, establishing GQ as a monthly title focussing on fashion, style, culture, sport and more recently politics. GQ was launched in the UK in September 1989. There are currently 13 editions of the magazine.
