MTV reveals new logo for 2008 Europe Music Awards

MTV, the Viacom-owned music and entertainment network, has kicked off its marketing for the MTV Europe Music Awards 2008, with a refreshed logo. MTV has increased its marketing spend in the UK with this year’s event being held in Liverpool in November.

The new logo has been designed in-house by MTV UK’s creative team and draws on influences including Japanese futuristic themes and anim». Previously, MTV has partnered with artists including Bansky, David LaCahpelle and Rankin to produce the logo.

It will be used over the next six months across 21 MTV channels across Europe, as well as in on all off-air marketing and advertising including web and mobile.
MTV Networks has signed Esprit sub-brand edc as the event’s sponsor but is also understood to be in talks with a number of local sponsors and partners. Edc sponsored the awards for the first time last year in a deal that also saw it advertise on TV for the first time (MW July 19, 2007).

It is also thought to be planning a week of activity in and around Liverpool, which is also European Capital of Culture 2008. The last time the event was hosted in the UK was in Edinburgh in 2003.

In 2007 the EMAs, which is broadcast on 19 channels across Europe as well as across the US and Asia, reached a total television audience of over 30 million people. Dedicated EMA websites saw a 35% increase year on year to three million unique visitors with total visits on show day increasing by 75% compared to 2006.
