3 signs Yahoo! to sell online ads

Yahoo! has signed an exclusive deal with 3 UK to sell the ads on the mobile operator’s UK portal, Planet 3. The first ads will appear on the site later in the month.

3, which has more than 3m customers in the UK, says the site is “prime advertising real estate” and, according to research by M:Metrics, the mobile operator is the second most popular mobile domain in the UK next to Facebook. Yahoo will sell banners and sponsored links.

Neil Andrews, head of on portal advertising at 3 UK, says: “With the ever-increasingly popularity of the mobile internet, more and more people are coming to the 3 portal. We’re in a great position to help brands reach our subscribers with a targeted and relevant advertising message.”

3 was one of the first entrants into mobile advertising and Yahoo! already offers mobile display in 23 territories across Europe, Asia and the Americas.
