Xfm Scotland to relaunch as Galaxy

Global Radio is relaunching Xfm Scotland as Galaxy. It will be relaunched as part of the dance music network by the end of the year.

The move will leave just two Xfm stations, in London and Manchester. Xfm Wales was sold to Town and Country Broadcasting in May.

Galaxy Scotland will sit alongside stations in Manchester, Yorkshire, the North East, and Birmingham as part of the Galaxy network.

Richard Park, executive director of Global, says: “Central Scotland can prepare itself to receive Britain’s fastest growing radio station aimed at young people and the prospect of the output from the Glasgow studios is an exciting one.”

In the latest Rajars, the Galaxy UK network increased listening hours by 9.3% quarter on quarter.

Global acquired Xfm as part of its £375 million takeover of GCap Media in April. The deal was approved by the Office of Fair Trading earlier this month and Global is now merging the sales operations of the two companies.
