Coke brings water brand into Schweppes portfolio

Coca-Cola Great Britain is rebranding and relaunching its recently acquired mineral water brand, Abbey Well, under the Schweppes name. It will be known as Schweppes Abbey Well from early next year.

Coke acquired the drinks company, Waters & Robson, earlier this month and says it is placing it under the Schweppes umbrella in order to give it wider appeal.

As part of the Coke sponsorship of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, Schweppes Abbey Well will be one of the drinks offered at London 2012.

Marketing plans around the brand are yet to be revealed, but Coke says it is planning to launch promotions associated with swimming.

A Coca-Cola GB spokesperson says: “Using the strengths of the Schweppes brand and the marketing and distribution capabilities of the Coca-Cola System in Great Britain, we will be able to offer this high quality British natural mineral water to more people across the country.

Schweppes Abbey Well will add to Coke’s existing water portfolio which includes English water brand, Malvern and vitamin water Glaceau.
