British Gas ad features Blur song

British Gas has unveiled an animated television campaign to promote its green credentials that is soundtracked with a song by Britpop band Blur.

The campaign, created by Clemmow Hornby Inge, features animations of customers’ homes on planets in outer space and is based on the idea that our homes are important to all of us. It features a British Gas van driving through space towing a planet covered in water with several large wind turbines on top.

The Blur song used in the ad is The Universal from the band’s album The Great Escape.

The campaign breaks this evening (16 February) during Golden Balls on ITV1 in the London region. It follows the first appearance of the animated-style approach in radio and press advertising last month.

The ads also feature a cartoon version of genuine British Gas engineer Alton Lousy. Marketing activity also includes press, outdoor and online advertising.

British Gas marketing director Rick Vlemmiks says: “This theme makes clear our ambition to be a truly customer-focused business, putting our customers at the heart of everything we do and putting British Gas at the heart of people’s homes.”
