Martha Lane Fox signs on as Government’s digital champion
Lastminute.com founder Martha Lane Fox is to become the Government’s ‘digital champion’, according to reports.
Lane Fox, who founded karaoke company Lucky Voice in 2005, is understood to have accepted a position to help encourage the public to become more involved in digital, as well as identify digital issues.
She’s believed to have accepted the role following a meeting with the UK Digital Task Force earlier this week.
Lane Fox is the latest high-profile name drafted in by the Government to head digital initiatives, following the announcement earlier in the week that web inventor Tim Berners-Lee is helping to open access to government information online.
Her appointment comes days ahead of the release of the Government’s long-awaited Digital Britain report, which will outline digital inclusion initiatives.
Lane Fox founded Lastminute.com with Brent Hoberman in 1998. While she stepped down as MD in 2003 and she sold 2m of her shares the next year, she remains a non-executive director.
Earlier today it was revealed Communications Minister Lord Carter, who is heading the Digital Britain report, is to leave the Government following its release.
