Sky to stream TV via iPhone
Sky is to start streaming live TV via an iPhone app as it looks for further revenues from the channel.
Its Sky Sports bundle, which includes access to Sky Sports channels, Sky Sports News, ESPN, At The Races and Sky News, will be available to stream for £6 a month.
The service, which is free to download initially, will provide an additional revenue stream from the iPhone for Sky, which is also planning to start selling FA Premier League goal highlights via its Sky Sports Football Score Centre app
David Gibbs, general manager for mobile at Sky, confirmed the service would be live shortly.
“Sky Mobile TV offers more choice, control and flexibility for customers, ensuring they can access the content they want, at a time that’s convenient to them, on the screen of their choosing,” said Gibbs.
Sky TV is available to stream via mobile with all the major operators except O2.
The TV app will add to the 1.8m downloads of the four news and sports apps it has already distributed.
