Castrol launches Extreme Football campaign ahead of World Cup

Castrol has launched an Extreme Football campaign to promote its Edge engine oil as part of the brand’s Fifa World Cup sponsorship.

The campaign revolves around two, rival, five-man football teams from the Universities of Exeter and Brighton as they compete in games on specially constructed pitches on ice and sand.

Shot over one week in November, the first half is played on an ice pitch, before the match is decided with a concluding half on sand.

Motion-capture cameras have been used to capture each player’s performance, which can be analysed on www.castroledgeextremefootball.com. The teams are coached by former Arsenal defenders Martin Keown and Nigel Winterburn.

The ad campaign is running on Sky Sports and Dave and across the web, where users can download all four episodes of the series.

Castrol UK marketing manager Rob Stroud said, “We hope to get football fans thinking about both the product and the sport in a new way and to provide them with some engaging content to share.”
