Jamie Oliver backs Sainsbury’s Sit Down Sunday campaign
Backed by Jamie Oliver and a host of other familiar faces, Sainsbury’s Magazine is launching a campaign to champion the importance of spending time eating round a table with friends and family on a Sunday.
The magazine is launching its “Sit Down Sunday” campaign in the May issue following a recent survey that revealed that 51% of its readers often skip Sunday lunch and 14% rarely eat together as a family.
Jamie Oliver kicks off the campaign with a message stressing the importance of Sunday lunch as “catch-up” time as well as an opportunity to cook and eat together.
The 8-page special depicts the weekend eating habits of television, music, fashion and literary figures including novelist Alexander McCall-Smith and singer and television presenter Mica Paris.
Paris is photographed enjoying a glamorous family brunch with her daughters and friends.
McCall-Smith is shown having afternoon tea with friends and family at his home.
Sainsbury’s Magazine editor Helena Lang, says: “Modern families are under so much pressure it’s often hard to find the time to talk. A meal anchors the occasion – whether it’s an egg and bacon breakfast, tea and cake or roast with all the trimmings, it’s guaranteed to get those you love around the table.’
