NME Breakthrough will act as an online hub for activity around new music and be tied to editorial content offline as well as on NME.com. The IPC-owned title has launched the community with sponsorship from BlackBerry.

Jamie Hodgson, NME’s new music editor, will use the community to unearth new bands and musicians to showcase in the magazine’s Radar section.

David Moynihan, editor of NME.com, said, “NME Breakthrough is a way of providing a channel for artists and our readers to connect. It also acts as an important medium for bands to listen to what their fans want, through a simple rating feature. In addition, we’re going to offer amazing opportunities on the site: the rewarded artists will perform at an NME Radar event as well as a key festival this summer.”

The platform was created by community publishing company Webjam.
