Lionel Richie to star in the new Walkers ad

Eighties pop sensation Lionel Richie is to star in the new advertising campaign for Walkers, alongside the face of the crisps brand, Gary Lineker.

The new ad, created by Abbott Mead Vickers.BBDO, is expected to be unveiled in the autumn.

Former footballer and television pundit Lineker has been the face of Walkers since 1994.

Over the years, the Pepsico-owned crisps brand has used several celebrities alongside Lineker in its advertising including former England football manager Terry Venables, ex-England boss Sir Bobby Robson, TV presenter Cat Deeley and models Kelly Brook and Pamela Anderson.

Earlier this year, Walkers rolled out a celebrity-laden TV ad campaign, promoting its range of 15 World Cup-inspired national crisp flavours.

TV presenter Melinda Messenger and actor Will Mellor dressed as French maids to support French Garlic Baguette flavour, while magician Paul Daniels dressed as a martial arts fighter in an ad promoting Japanese Teriyaki Chicken.

Former ’Coronation Street’ actress Julie Goodyear wore a carnival-inspired clothing to support Brazilian Salsa flavour, and former newsreader and presenter Stuart Hall also appeared in the ads as a commentator.
