Comparethemarket to open London store

Update: Comparethemarket.com, the online comparison site, is to open a pop-up retail store on London’s Regent Street.

It will open for two days under the spoof Comparethemeerkat.com brand to launch the autobiograbphy of Aleksandr Orlov – Founder of Compare the Meerkat.

The Regent Street pop-up will replicate the Comparethemeerkat store depicted in the latest TV ad campaign (pictured).

Visitors to the pop-up store will be able to compare Meerkats in a similar way to the existing online meerkat comparison tool.

It is the first time the comparison site brand brand has opened a physical store.

Comparethemarket has been running a social media teaser campaign via Aleksandr Orlov – Founder of Compare the Meerkat’s Facebook profile for the past week.

The meerkat, who has been Comparethemarket’s brand character since January 2009, announced via his Facebook status that the store will open on Thursday (28 October) at 80 Regent Street.

On his Facebook profile the meerkat compares himself to businessman Lord Sugar and “pickle entrepreneur” Richard Branson for expanding the Comparethemeerkat business into retail.

He claims: “For launch of autobiography, I have decide to follow in shoes of Papa Anton and open comparethemeerkat.shop London branch! I very excite!”

The Comparethemeerkat campaign was created by VCCP.
