Apple’s VP of marketing communications Allison Johnson is leaving the company after six years in the role.

The announcement comes just a day after Apple’s rival Microsoft lost its head of global marketing, Mich Matthews.

Johnson, who handled global marketing for the company’s iconic iPhone, iPad and iPod products, is to start her own marketing and communications company.

It is thought she has set up the firm with Facebook PR executive Brandee Barker, who already counts social buying service Groupon and answers site Quora as clients.

Prior to joining Apple in 2005, Johnson was the senior vice president for global brand communications at Hewlett-Packard.
