London 2012 Olympic Games: One year to go

Olympic sponsors are ramping up their 2012 themed advertising activity to mark the 12 month countdown to the London Olympic Games.

Advertisers including British Airways, Thomas Cook and BP are taking advantage of the milestone to build awareness of their status as official Olympic partners.

Ads appearing today across the nation press include:

  • Holiday Inn – The official hotel partner of the Games is celebrating one year to go by offering 50% off hotels stays booked today (27 July).
  • Thomas Cook – Official short break provider of the Games is offering Olympic ticket and hotel deals from £99.
  • British Airways is marking the milestone by offering Telegraph readers an opportunity to win Olympic tickets.
  • Omega – The official timekeeper of the Games for 25 years is running adverts showing the first photofinish in Olympic history recorded by its technology back in 1948.
  • BT – The official communications partner is running press ads with the strapline “Bringing it all together for London 2012”.
  • EDF Energy – the London 2012 sustainability partner is continuing its fixed price energy tariff advertising campaign.
  • Lloyds Bank is running an ad campaign encouraging companies to find out how the Games will affect their business in the coming year.
  • Transport for London (TfL) is also running press ads encouraging London firms to plan ahead for how its workers’ travel plans might be affected by the Games.
  • BP – is running its campaign highlighting its efforts to offset carbon featuring Olympic athlete Jessica Ennis.
  • Samsung – is continuing its ad campaign starring David Beckham to promote its search for Olympic torchbearers for the opening ceremony.

Other official Olympic partners that appear in today’s papers include: Links London and BMW.

Aviva, which is not an Olympic partner but is a long-term sponsor of British athletics is running advertising alongside London 2012 features promoting its Aviva Athletics events.

Sainsbury’s, which is a Paralympics partner but has no official involvement with the Olympic Games, is likely to launch a heavyweight advertising campaign in two weeks to mark one year to go until the Paralympic Games.

All the major papers are running special features featuring British athletes and outlining the challenges ahead with only one year to go and The Times, The Telegraph and free morning paper Metro are running special edition supplements.
