Kilgore, who has previously director of marketing at Amazon, will join the company’s board as a non-executive director, after spending 12 years as Netflix’s chief marketer. Vice president of marketing, Jessie Becker, will take over the role in the interim.

The announcement comes two weeks after Netflix’s UK launch, which saw the company take on existing on-demand services such as Lovefilm and Virgin Media’s TiVo.

Elsewhere Jonathan Friedland, who joined Netflix as vice president of global corporate communications in February, has been named chief communications officer. He will report directly to CEO, Reed Hastings.

The company is scheduled to announce its Q4 earnings on Wednesday (25 January).
