PepsiCo readies Walkers Sensations nuts brand

Walkers is to launch flavoured nuts under its Sensations brand as part of a wider push from parent-company PepsiCo to tap into growing sales of salty snacks in the UK.

The crisp brand will introduce four flavours of nuts: Chinese Szechuan Pepper, Californian Honey and Salt, Mexican Smoked Chilli and Tuscan Sun Ripened Tomato & Basil next month.

PepsiCo, which already sells nuts across Western Europe, will support the launch with in-store promotions, press and digital marketing.

Overall, the salty snack market in the UK reached an estimated £3.18bn last year, up 6% from 2010, according to Mintel.

It marks the second time the US food company has attempted to expand the Walkers Sensations brand into the nuts category. In 2003 it launched Sensations Nut Clusters in a bid to take on market leader KP Nuts, which is owned by United Biscuits.
