It has appointed former travel industry marketer Andy Furlong to take the position. He joins from the role of chief marketing officer for TravelHorizon Group and has worked at Mark Warner, Island Cruises and Thomson Holidays.

Furlong is charged with developing ecommerce opportunities and brand marketing for the UK. He reports to sales and marketing director Nick Harwood

Furlong says: “Europcar has a strong, strategic view of where the business and all its brands are going. This is supported by a great team and I am looking forward to working with them to achieve the business’s objectives, using a combination of website development, e-CRM, affiliate programmes and brand communication to drive sales.

“In particular, I am looking forward to developing new ecommerce initiatives to really enhance the business both domestically in the UK and outbound to Europe.”

Some of the responsibilities for the role were handled by former marketing director Catriona Kempston, who is now working at Travelodge.

Rival car hire service Avis Budget recently appointed Troy Warfield as group commercial director for EMEA.

The group is currently looking for an advertising agency to work on its European business.
