HMV marketing director to exit

HMV’s marketing director Mark Hodgkinson is the latest casualty of job cuts at the entertainment retailer following its fall into administration.

Hodgkinson, who joined HMV in 2011 as marketing and ecommerce director, had been expected to stay on at the chain and lead a significantly reduced marketing team after 190 head office jobs were axed last week.

It has been confirmed, however, Hodgkinson’s role has also been axed, one of 66 head office jobs administrator Deloitte has confirmed will go. CEO Trevor Moore is also to leave.

Deloitte declined to comment on specific roles and calls to HMV and Hodgkinson were not returned.

Deloitte has confirmed a further 66 head office roles have been cut.

More than 60 HMV stores are due to close in the coming two months as the administrator looks to shore up the future of the retail chain by downsizing its store portfolio.

Deloitte was unable to confirm which specific job roles were being axed but in a statement said: “Following our announcement of the closure of 66 stores yesterday, it has been necessary to consider the head office support required for the reduced store portfolio. As a result of this review, a number of redundancies at the head office have been made.”

“This has been a difficult decision, but a necessary one in restructuring the business. We would like to express our gratitude to staff for their continued support during the administration.”
