Wonolo

Wonolo is an on-demand staffing app, co-created with Coca-Cola Founders – the company’s startup incubator – and recently raised $5.7m (£3.9m).

It is like an Uber for businesses needing freelance help at short notice and was founded in San Francisco in 2013 by former investment banking executive Yong Kim and former Coca-Cola brand manager AJ Brustein.

They came up with the idea after seeing Coke often had short-term staffing needs that could not wait three days for a temp agency to fulfil. This type of app could disrupt working cultures, with one journalist saying: “If platforms like Wonolo catch on, companies will begin to restructure their workforce to take advantage of them.”

Before they can put themselves forward for jobs Wonolo vets applicants on the ‘five Ps’: whether they are professional, punctual, positive, prepared and polite.
