Sun Alliance looks like a right turkey

Sun Alliance and the Turkish Tourism Board are vying for Quote of the Week. Director of the Turkish Tourist Office, Mustafa Turkmen, is about to end his five-year tenure in the UK office with a posting back to the Turkish headquarters. “It’s all very sad. I would prefer Venice or Paris. Ankara isn’t really a beautiful city,” says the man who is about to become Turkey’s permanent undersecretary for tourism.

On the news that the Duke of Westminster, the richest man in Britain was appointed to a £20,000-a-year post on Sun Alliance’s Board, a spokesman defended itself against conflict of interest, claiming that the Duke’s Grosvenor Estates Holdings was also a major client, with the statement: “I thought the trend was towards having consumer representation on the board.”
