Shelter, the charity for the homeless, has appointed J Walter Thompson to provide strategic advice and create a new advertising campaign.

Sharp Electronics UK has retained Poulter as the sole agency on its £3m advertising account after seeing pitches from McCann-Erickson Manchester and J Walter Thompson Manchester.

BT is reviewing its £20m below-the-line roster, which includes Wunderman Cato Johnson, Ogilvy & Mather Direct, Payne Stracey and Craik Jones.

North West Water has awarded its £3m account to BDH Advertising, which beat WCRS and the Leith Agency to the business.

The RAC is thought to have short-listed WCRS, Mustoe Merriman Herring Levy, Chiat/Day and incumbent Woollams Moira Gaskin O’Malley.

Bates Dorland has relaunched itself as an `ideas factory’, rather than just an ad agency.

Nynex Corp, the cable communications group, has realigned its $35m (£23m) US advertising business with four of its five roster agencies – Ogilvy & Mather, Young & Rubicam, Grey Advertising and Arnold, Fortuna, Lawner & Cabot – following corporate restructuring. The changes do not affect the fifth roster agency, Chiat/Day.

Peter Gatley, head of art at BMP, has been elected to the executive of D&AD, replacing Alfredo Marcantonio, who has stood down to give more time to `overseas commitments’.

Miller Pilsner has dropped Grey London, BMP DDB Needham and TBWA from its shortlist. Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe and Young & Rubicam will fight it out.

Mercury One2One has confirmed that it is reviewing its direct marketing account, currently held by Sutch Webster WMGO. It refused to say which agencies are likely to be invited to pitch.

The Monte Carlo TV95 conference (March 8-10), associated with Marketing Week, has now attracted 250 delegates, including representatives from more than 60 top UK advertisers. Keynote presenters include Mirror Group chief executive David Montgomery, Pedigree Petfoods managing director John Dale, Thames Television chief executive Richard Dunn, and KP Foods Group group managing director David Hearn.
