Bates Communications has won the 500,000 advertising acc-ount for factory outlet developer BAA McArthur/Glen UK after pitching against Grey London, BMP4 and GD&O.

Bates Communications has won the £500,000 advertising acc-ount for factory outlet developer BAA McArthur/Glen UK after pitching against Grey London, BMP4 and GD&O.

The developer, a joint venture between the British Airports Authority and US developer McArthur Glenn, plans to open its first UK centre at the Cheshire Oaks site, Ellesmere Port, near Liverpool, in April.

Factory outlet centres, which have spread rapidly across the US, offer manufacturers the chance to sell end-of-line products and seconds at discount-ed prices. The BAA/McAr- thur Glenn site will have 30 manufacturers, including Nike and Liz Claiborne, and cover 100,000 sq ft.

Bates Communications will use television, press and direct mail to announce the opening of the site. A six to eight-week burst of advertising will take place in the Granada Television area at the time of opening.

* Former Bates Communications account director Alex Rodrigues has been appointed as marketing manager for Ericsson Mobile Terminals (UK). Ericsson plans to launch a national advertising campaign through Bates Direct this spring. The campaign will include advertisements in the consumer and business press and on outdoor poster sites.
