Scottish Power Retail is reviewing its £1.2m account (Register-MEAL) with Bridge/Alliance, as it prepares for further expansion into England.

Scottish Power Retail is the third largest electrical retailer in the UK after Dixons and Comet. It trades under three main brands – Scottish Power, Sound & Vision, and Electricity Plus.

A Scottish Power spokesman says: “Our dramatic expansion into England in the past year, is producing a substantial increase in spend.”

Scottish Power Retail has 50 out-of-town superstores south of the border.

However, the retailer is cautious about its forecasts for the coming year. The spokesman says: “It is a fluid time for electrical retailing, with Comet doing poorly and Rumbelows closing down. But we are returning healthy profits and are looking to expand.”

* Bridge/Alliance has received another blow with the loss of car dealership Arnold Clarke, which has taken its £1.5m account in house.
