In DJ Campbell’s reply to Chris Boulding’s article on the BJA study on the armed forces (MW February 10), a photograph was used to accompany it, with the caption “Army study: Unreal stereotypes”.
The macho-looking group of men are obviously wearing green camouflage garb, have darkened faces and are carrying the weapons of their trade. But Army they are not. They are Royal Marines, a part of the Navy.
This is a bit like calling a Chelsea supporter a Liverpool fan.
