Ex-Express’ Stan Myerson signs for Northern & Shell

Controversial former Express executive Stan Myerson has been appointed group advertising director at Northern & Shell, publisher of OK! Magazine and pornographic titles.

Myerson, former assistant to the managing director and deputy advertisement director at Express Newspapers. He will report to N&S chairman Richard Desmond and will have responsibility for the company’s advertising sales strategy and “hands-on-selling”.

Myerson left the Express in September last year following allegations of irregularities in the sales department made against him and former advertising director Michael Moore.

No allegations were proven. Moore left the Express last July and joined The European as commercial and enterprise manager in January.

Myerson denied that the publicity regarding the departures – the Mail on Sunday ran a front page story alleging that Myerson instigated the bugging of Moore’s office at the Express – affected his chances of returning to national newspapers.

“I haven’t sought to get back into the newspaper industry,” says Myerson. “I want to put the past behind me and get on with this fresh and exciting opportunity to develop Northern & Shell’s revenue base.”

He declined to comment on the circumstances of his departure from the Express, saying it is sub judice in relation to a claim for unfair dismissal, to be heard at an industrial tribunal later this year.
